Brady Education Foundation seeks help from private schools

-November 26, 2018- From Barbara Crockett to Tim Daniel of Montessori Community School, "For our Montessori Research Initiative we are supporting Dr. Carolyn Daoust and Dr. Angela Murray (from the KU Center for Montessori Research) as they develop a Montessori implementation measurement tool we can use to describe public school classrooms. We know that there will be variation in implementation and we need to be able to capture that variation. They will be piloting a very early version in January. I agreed to visit classrooms in North Carolina. The classroom inventory can be done while children are out of the room. The teacher activity measure would require about a 20 minute observation, maybe 30 minutes. At no time would I be doing child observations. Teacher observations would only be for the purpose of developing the measurement tool. Carolyn has been working on this measure for a number of years and has reported on its development at MACTE, at national meetings, etc. The goal is to end up with something that will be freely available to all Montessori schools, will be easy to use and maybe….this part is still in development…..be in a form that would not require Montessori training to administer.

At last week’s meeting, a number of schools volunteered to help the Brady Education Foundation in some manner in this initiative. At the time, Iheoma and I could not think of anything. However, now I am wondering if you, with permission from your TMA Heads of School organization’s leadership, might put an email out asking for volunteer 3-6 classrooms. This would be a way for private Montessori schools to support this public sector initiative. More than that, they would also be supporting a data driven implementation measurement tool that, when finished, would be available to those who wish to use it, free of charge. Interested schools could email me. Carolyn’s intention is to pilot it in January so I would call to schedule a visit sometime in January. She will also be collecting data from classrooms in California and Seattle. She needs as much data as possible for this piloted version.

I appreciate any help you can give. Thanks!

Kind regards,

Barbara Crockett
