From Montessori Partnerships for Georgia:

"Georgia Adopts New Montessori Teaching Certificate
We did it! The Georgia Professional Standards Commission has adopted the new Montessori teaching certificate we helped them design.

Creating a Montessori teaching certificate was our most ambitious policy goal so far. This accomplishment provides a crucial step to making Montessori accessible to children across the state.

The new certificate is open to anyone who holds a Montessori credential from a program accredited by the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE), passes the appropriate subject-area tests, and meets Georgia’s additional special requirements.

The certificate will:

  • Dramatically expand the hiring pool for our public Montessori schools
  • Ensure that public Montessori teachers have a baseline level of Montessori training
  • Set the stage for an expansion of public Montessori across the state
For more details, read our FAQs or read the rule (choose "Montessori Certificate").

Thanks so much to everyone who made their voices heard through the public comment process! The Executive Secretary of the GaPSC said, "We've never received so many postive comments for any rule as we did for the Montessori certificate."
