About Montessori Alliance of Tennessee

Established in 2013, Montessori Alliance of TN is a not for profit registered as a 501 (c)3. We are governed by a Board of Directors composed of Montessori administrators, teachers, and parents. Our Executive Director is Jaime Yeager, co-founder of MAT. MAT began as a conversation and a dream between two Middle TN Montessorians and is now an active state body active in advocacy, consumer protection, and continuing education. MAT is organized by Committees which engage in the work needed to fulfill our mission.

~Mission Statement~ The Montessori Alliance of Tennessee is an inclusive community of schools, teachers and families supporting high quality Montessori education.
Our goals are to speak with one, united voice, advocating for high quality Montessori education and to provide ongoing education and support to the Montessori community.

The Montessori Alliance of TN accomplishes it mission and work with three committees-
Advocacy, Education, and Communications.
The Communications committee includes maintenance of our website, and a quarterly newsletter that is shared with all schools in our TN community.
The Education committee plans and annual conference which has grown over the past several years to now having almost 300 participants. We have a Keynote Address on Friday evening with a topic and speaker relevant to families. The conference begins on Saturday with a Montessori educator who offers us inspiration and an opportunity for reflection as we join a wide variety of workshops throughout the day.
In addition to our annual conference, MAT provides a variety of professional development in each region of our state over the year. These day long workshops cover topics benefiting teachers in their classroom practice as they earn CEU's required by our state.
Part of our education outreach includes a Glass Classroom. For the second year, we will be hosting a toddler and early childhood Glass Classroom in a popular park in Nashville in May. This is one of many ways that we share Montessori with families.
Our Advocacy committee has worked on a number of efforts which support high-quality Montessori education in the state and respond to the needs of our schools. We have a well developed Validation Project and to date almost 50% of our schools are validated or in process.
We have worked extensively with the TN Department of Education to secure variation in rules and regulations that support our schools. We have worked with the State Board of Education, and legislators to help them gain knowledge and understanding of Montessori education.
